‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8: Ian Somerhalder unsure on Nina Dobrev series finale return
The eighth season of “The Vampire Diaries” is currently airing, and we know that the finale will be on the air around the time spring starts to roll around. It’s an ending that everyone has speculated about for quite some time, and for Ian Somerhalder, he’s made it very clear over the years that he’d be down for an atypical sort of ending, one where we end up seeing many of the supernatural characters die so that humanity could reclaim the earth.
For the time being, though, the actor doesn’t know for sure if that will happen — he doesn’t even know for sure at the moment if Nina Dobrev is going to return. When asked that question by Variety, here is what he had to say:
“I don’t know. I have zero idea. As a producer, I do have a lot of information and then there’s a lot of information I don’t have. I want the audience to be happy, but I also am very pro human. I don’t think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They’ve lived long enough.”
Ian does have a very clear point here, and that is mostly that so many of these characters are terrible people, and if this is life, we’d be terrified of them. Yet, it’s fiction, and giving them a happy ending probably does allow that fiction and that fantasy to continue on. We do personally believe that there will be some supernatural survivors, even if everyone dying would certainly amount for one of the craziest and most memorable finales we could possibly imagine.
