‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 9 preview: The Oliver Queen – Susan Williams conundrum

Arrow -

While much of this past “Arrow” episode dealt with the Dominators and an alternate universe, tonight’s will be bringing us back a little bit into more normal territory. Prometheus will be surfacing once more as a villain, and we’re finally going to learn their identity for the first time.

Also worth noting is the complicated relationship between Oliver Queen and Susan Williams. While she as a reporter doesn’t know that he could be the Green Arrow, she has figured out that there are some parts of his story that are not exactly lining up. What she wants to do with the information she finds is a good question, given especially that she hasn’t come across as the sort of person who is looking to prioritize a relationship over breaking a big story.

In setting up the pair’s future to TVLine, Stephen Amell passed along the following message:

“Where they go is interesting … Susan appears to be up to no good, but in reality she’s just following a very interesting story. I mean, the mayor of the town … was clearly not on island for five consecutive years.”

We’d be surprised if this story takes center stage tonight, but down the road, we definitely think we could be running into an issue where Oliver suddenly finds himself having to protect his secret identity from the world, knowing what could happen were it to find out. That’s exciting, largely because there aren’t many other situations out there in the CW superhero universe where that has been discussed in a while. Typically, the only time we see it come up is when someone tries to use their alter ego as trust capital in order to get what they want. Take, for example, with Barry and Julian on this past episode of “The Flash.”
