Should ‘Lucifer’ season 2, ‘Gotham’ season 3 swap places on Fox schedule?
Unfortunately, there are no new episodes of “Lucifer” or “Gotham” coming on the air between now and January, so that’s going to leave us in a little bit of a holding pattern. It’s a long time to wait for new episodes of the show, especially when it’s a show like these two that we enjoy to the extent that we do.
The question that we’re pondering over in the title is one that admittedly has been on our mind for a little while now, given the fact that both of these shows score somewhat similar ratings, but there could be reasons for them to consider a timeslot swap.
The biggest one to us is simply about trying to avoid competition. “Gotham” and “Supergirl” are airing at the same exact time, and we think that the former show could benefit quite a bit from stepping out of that show’s shadow a little bit. Both “Gotham” and “Lucifer” are dark, so there shouldn’t really be that much of a content issue that comes with swapping the two around. The perceived benefit that would come from this is that you could get a small overall ratings benefit for one of them without hurting the other. It would also be looked at as an added vote of confidence to “Lucifer” to open out the night — the show’s actually defeated “Gotham” on some nights during the season, and that is absolutely something that should be looked at as notable given that we never expected it to be the case prior to “Lucifer” premiering last year. It’s done an impressive job holding onto its following.
