‘Supergirl’ season 2, episode 9: Three things we’d like to see
As many of you out there may know, there is no new episode of “Supergirl” airing on The CW tonight, as the installment that you got a chance to check out last week was actually the midseason finale. That is probably one of the reasons why there really wasn’t much of a heavy crossover component to the story, as the writers wanted to do everything in their power to ensure that there was a satisfying conclusion for the time being. There was romance (Kara and Mon-El had a moment, and Maggie and Alex are now together), there were some surprises (Lena Luthor actually ended up being responsible for stopping her mother), and there was also a pretty interesting cliffhanger (mysterious characters looking for Mon-El).
So what do we want to see when the show returns next month? For the sake of this article, we’ve conjured up a few different ideas.
1. More Winn-focused story – He joined the DEO. To date, that’s really the biggest development that the character’s had since the early days of the season. Sure, he was responsible in part for helping James become Guardian, but he was serving in more a behind-the-scenes role there. It would be nice to see a personal story of his that either incorporates more of his past, or finds a way to incorporate him more directly into the story. Could the show find a way to get Silver Banshee back into the mix?
2. Stronger villains right away – We’re already getting a slight indication that this is something that the show is working on, given that they are in the process of casting someone famous from the Superman comics. For two much of season 1, we had instances of Project Cadmus helping to create some literal or metaphorical monster, and then Supergirl taking it down. Most of these characters were not even memorable enough to have a name.
3. Kara’s real-life struggle – In the midst of everything with Cadmus and trying to figure out a proper way in which to defeat Cyborg Superman, much of Kara’s professional career at CatCo fell by the wayside. Much like Barry Allen has his day job on “The Flash” and Oliver Queen is the Mayor on “Arrow,” we like to see these characters confront real-world challenges. Give her a mission that really tests here as a reporter and causes her to think in her Kara brain rather than her Supergirl one.
