Ratings: ‘Secrets and Lies’ fails to help season 3 odds; ‘Once Upon a Time’ winter finale drops
The ratings for Sunday night’s television lineup have officially come in, and given that there were several shows in repeats on the night, it’s pretty fair to say that this was a relatively quiet one in terms of numbers.
ABC – Most of our discussion is going to come courtesy of the Alphabet network, starting with the news that the “Once Upon a Time” season 6 finale ended up drawing in total a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This isn’t exactly great news, given that it does mark a small drop of where the show was going into the episode. We should be clear that we’ve got all the confidence in the world in a season 7 renewal for the series; beyond that, however, we’re not entirely sure.
Meanwhile, the season 2 finale for “Secrets and Lies” managed to average out around a 0.7 rating, which does put it around the show’s average as of late; yet, said average really is not enough to guarantee a renewal. Right now, we put the show’s return as doubtful, which probably is not great news for people out there hoping for resolution on its cliffhanger.
Fox – The only other network airing new programming on the night, there was some good news for Fox almost right away courtesy of “The Simpsons,” which drew a 2.4 rating — its biggest in a little while. Cite football for that, given that it came on right after “The OT” finished up. Meanwhile, the rest of the animated series crashed back to earth a little bit, whether it be “Son of Zorn” (1.3), “Family Guy” (1.6), or “The Last Man on Earth” (1.1). We wonder sometimes if Fox would ever consider putting “Family Guy” directly after “The Simpsons” to beef up some of their ratings, but it would come at the expense of the 9:00 p.m. hour.
