‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 9 video: Evelyn’s betrayal and when it happened

Artemis -The fifth season of “Arrow” is coming off of an epic 100th episode that was important to the crossover with the other CW shows, but at the same time emotional and powerful in its own right. What it brought to you was the story of what Oliver Queen’s life could have been like were he not the Green Arrow. It’s a future that is unattainable, but the purpose was still clear: Providing a mechanism to drive him further, while also allowing him to say goodbye to much of what he lost.

With that, the time is here to press onward into the winter finale, where we take on a subject in Evelyn Sharp / Artemis who was largely missing in action during the crossover. She’s firmly in the traitor role now, having gone back on her decision to work with Team Arrow. At the time the betrayal scene first took place, there was understandably so confusion regarding when she first made the decision, and if she’d been a plant for Prometheus the whole time. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim clarifies that to Entertainment Weekly:

“Rewatch episode 506 … If you view the end of 506 and her final scenes with Oliver as, ‘Oh, she’s lying,’ I think you see when she decided to team up with Prometheus. Basically in the commercial break between Act 5 and Act 6 [of that episode], that’s when she made the decision to join up with Prometheus. So while people were watching car commercials, that’s what she was doing.”

What this means effectively is that Prometheus is someone with a history of the Green Arrow and his alter ego prior to Artemis’ betrayal, as he understood that Captain Lance would be an effective person to frame in some way. You could also take Tobias Church’s death as further evidence of that from a little bit earlier in the season. It’s hard to say whether or not this necessarily lowers the suspect list, mostly because it’s so difficult know what that said list is or who is on it. This is not a show with a robust number of possibilities unless Prometheus is from the Russia flashbacks or someone presumed dead is actually still alive.

The extended promo below is effective in added to the drama — and reminding us that Oliver’s not going to be waiting for an altogether long period of time to learn exactly who Artemis is.
