‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: 5 After Midnight, Saara Aalto, Matt Terry’s Christmas songs revealed
On Saturday’s “The X Factor” UK episode, the series will be getting into the holiday spirit! The theme for the week is Christmas, which may have been awkward if there was someone on the show who is a total Scrooge. Luckily, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
The show this weekend is formatted similarly to the one last week, where each singer will perform a themed song coupled with one of their own choosing. These tracks determine who makes it to the final weekend, so you have to believe that the pressure is on and it is high for everyone remaining to succeed!
5 After Midnight – “Stay Another Day” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” These are strong choices. While the former may not be enormously familiar, it’s still a solid choice. Meanwhile, the group has shown a knack for updating and in some ways transforming older songs to suit their modern style. Stevie Wonder is right in their wheelhouse.
Saara Aalto – “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “Chandelier.” The strategy for Saara is effectively the same as last week: Perform one super-fun song and pair it with something slow and emotional. These are great songs, and both will be immediately familiar to viewers.
Emily Middlemas – “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” and “Mad World.” The first song is extremely ambitious; it’s also a really powerful song with a message far beyond just the spirit of the holiday. “Mad World” is a little less of a risk. Knowing her voice, she should be more than capable of killing it.
Matt Terry – “Silent Night” and “Say You Love Me.” For Matt, he is beginning the night with one of the most traditional songs ever before venturing into something much more modern.
There’s a reason that the sentiments here are so positive: There are no dud lists this time! It’s a rarity for the show, but it still remains to be seen if everyone will deliver on these choices.
