Golden Globes 2017: Andrew Lincoln, Gillian Anderson, ‘Outlander’ among reader picks
Throughout the month of November, we encouraged all of you to take part in our annual Golden Globes Preview Series where we look at some of the best shows / performers of the entire year and select who we feel are the most worthy candidates in each category. Then, we ask all of you out there to vote for your favorite as if you were voting for the winner!
As a whole, major kudos to all of you, as over 100,000 votes were cast across every one of the categories. Today, we are here to reveal all of the winners! These results were documented at the official end of voting on November 30 at noon Pacific time.
Drama Series – “Outlander.” This wasn’t even close. We’ve seen the show score major vote totals in some categories on the site before, but this may have been its biggest margin of victory to date.
Drama Actor – Andrew Lincoln, “The Walking Dead.” This always tends to be our most-popular category, and that proved to also be the case this time around. Lincoln edged out Jamie Dornan of “The Fall” with just under 10% of the vote separating the two.
Drama Actress – Gillian Anderson, “The Fall.” Anderson won here with around a 15% margin over Caitriona Balfe of “Outlander.” Both of these women dominated this category and left everyone else in the dust.
Comedy Series – With just over a 1% margin of victory, “The Good Place” edged out “Silicon Valley” in the closest race of the entire preview series.
Comedy Actor – Dwayne Johnson, “Ballers.” It was a pretty hefty margin of victory for Johnson over anyone, with 20% roughly separating him from second place.
Comedy Actress – Kristen Bell, “The Good Place.” As a whole, the NBC comedy probably was one of the big revelations that came out of the Globes Preview Series this year. We know we at CarterMatt really loved it, but weren’t sure how readers would respond.
Limited Series / TV Movie – It was fairly close, but “The Night Manager” edged out “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.”
Limited Series / TV Movie Actor – Tom Hiddleston, “The Night Manager.” A huge victory. Hiddleston scored more votes than the remainder of the field combined.
Limited Series / TV Movie Actress – Sarah Paulson, “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” This is the one category that we’re the most confident will line up with what the Hollywood Foreign Press will actually decide.
Supporting Actor – Norman Reedus, “The Walking Dead.” With an enormous margin of victory courtesy of the readers, winning this category for Norman was easy street.
Supporting Actress – Lauren Cohan, “The Walking Dead.” It wasn’t as commanding a margin, but Cohan’s win here makes it a clean sweep for “The Walking Dead” in all the categories we nominated in this time.
We’ll see who the actual Globes decided to nominate come December 12, and of course, we’ll have plenty of coverage.
Come Monday, we’re going to be kicking off for the year our annual CarterMatt Awards voting! One of the goals with that is to recognize shows that are not necessarily getting the awards consideration that they deserve, so be sure to come back for that.
