‘Insecure’ season 2: Premiere date hopes for Issa Rae – HBO series
Tonight, the season 1 finale of “Insecure” is going to be airing on HBO, and as a result of that, you’re going to left waiting for a very long time to see precisely where this story is going to go from here moving forward into the future.
What we can tell you now is simply this: There will be a future for the comedy starring and executive produced by Issa Rae. Earlier this fall, the network renewed both this show, “Divorce,” and “Westworld” for additional seasons, with a combination of ratings and critical acclaim being a huge part of the reason why. The comedy was created by Rae alongside Larry Wilmore, who could technically have a more active role in the series now given the end of “The Nightly Show” over on Comedy Central. That series kept him largely out of the day-to-day operations for most of the first season.
For the time being, the only thing that HBO has confirmed in regards to “Insecure” is that the second season will air at some point in 2017. Whether or not it will join “Westworld” on the same time remains to be seen. That show has a lengthy production cycle, and with that, there is a possibility that it will not be on the air until 2018 and we’ll end up seeing both “Insecure” and “Divorce” paired with something else. We don’t think this would impact the success of either show very much, given that their calling cards (smart, timely, fascinating comedy) will translate no matter when they air on the schedule. The only question that remains is whether or not HBO subscribers will choose to pick up the network simply for this show if there is nothing else appealing on the schedule.
Once we get a more official premiere date, we’ll let you know; unfortunately, it could still be a while until we find something out.
