NBC’s ‘The Voice’ faces double-elimination following top 10 performance show
For Monday night’s new episode of “The Voice,” you’re going to be seeing the show changing course ever so slightly.
What you’re going to be seeing on this episode for the first time this season is a double-elimination, which will bring the field of ten down to eight. This is a move being made apparently to make the Red Wedding that is coming on this show a little bit less dramatic.
If you recall, last year the show had a super-dramatic elimination where they took the field of nine all the way down to four right before the finale, which is a move largely brought on by the fact that this show only has a small handful of live performance shows in which to feature many of the artists. They used to at one point narrow the field down more gradually, but recently they determined for whatever reason that this idea was somehow better and more entertaining.
The one benefit that does come with it is an opportunity to get to know some of the singers better, and it allows for opportunities for someone to struggle one week, make it through, and then come back and deliver something huge following that. The one thing that we personally don’t love about this is that it eliminates the possibility of having people perform two songs in a single show, which they probably could have done if they went from twelve down to ten down to eight down to six. We’d rather have a chance to see performers who make it that far have further chances to shine on the stage. Maybe it would help their careers a little more after the fact.
