‘Star Trek: Discovery’ finds a captain in Michelle Yeoh
The search for the cast with “Star Trek: Discovery” has been a rather lengthy one. We’ve seen changes in premiere dates, changes behind the scenes, and yet, we’re still very much waiting to learn the majority of the show’s key players.
Yet, we are at least happy to have a little more casting today. Per Deadline, Michelle Yeoh has been cast in the role of Han Bo, the captain of a ship known as the Shenzhou that will be at the center of the show’s first season. It should be noted that this is not the ship that is going to be at the center of the show, and the search is still underway for that character.
In casting Yeoh, the site smartly notes that “Star Trek” is really looking for broad international appeal here, which is a smart move for them as they continue to look for the right away to move forward. Netflix holds the international rights to the show in the vast majority of the territories beyond north America, so expect to see a heck of a lot of it out there.
Hopefully, this is going to lead to some other casting news moving forward, though “Star Trek” still has a little bit of time. It will be premiering on CBS in the spring of next year, and will be using the network as a launching pad to air the remainder of the first season on the CBS All Access platform. If you want to watch beyond the first episode, you’ll need to purchase a subscription. Here’s to hoping the show makes it worthwhile.
