Ratings: ‘Scream Queens’ sinks further as ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finale ties ‘The Voice’
There were some interesting ratings trends across the board on Tuesday, but one of the more interesting ones for us — on a completely depressing level — is the decline of “Scream Queens.”
From the onset, we’ve thought that the Ryan Murphy comedy-horror series was a bit of a ratings disappointment. It’s got a great cast and is incredibly entertaining, so it’s been tough to identify the problem. We’ll get into specifics in just a moment, but we’re far from confident that this show is going to find a second life.
CBS – The latest episode of “NCIS” improved to a 1.9, while “Bull” remained fairly steady around its 1.5. The same goes for “NCIS: New Orleans” at a 1.2. This is a network that clearly knows who it’s audience is, and as a result of that, really doesn’t feel any sort of significant need to shake things up with a more unpredictable series.
NBC – The latest edition of “The Voice” as a results show drew a 1.8 rating, while “This Is Us” slid slightly to a 2.4. “Chicago Fire” generated a respectable 1.5, which makes NBC as a whole the strongest network on the night.
ABC – “The Middle” (1.6) was steady while “American Housewife” (1.4) declined; the “Dancing with the Stars” finale brought in a solid-but-unspectacular 1.8, which tied it with “The Voice.” This show is absolutely not going anywhere in the near future, so there’s very little to worry about from a ratings point of view.
Fox – “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (0.9) and “New Girl” (0.8) showed very little in regards to change on the night, but that shouldn’t be a whole lot of a shock given that they’ve got steady audiences.
Now, let’s get into “Scream Queens.” With a 0.5 rating, the show’s lucky in some ways that Fox isn’t just pulling it from the air entirely at this point. It’s just shocking that a show with Taylor Lautner, Emma Roberts, John Stamos, and Lea Michele isn’t getting better numbers than this. Especially since this show is a lot of fun to watch.
The CW – “The Flash” (1.1) declined slightly, while “No Tomorrow” (1.1) remained us further that its own future is bleak.
