‘NCIS’ season 14 spoilers: Will we see Bishop’s boyfriend Qasim again soon?

When “NCIS” first promoted that we were going to meet Bishop’s new boyfriend on Tuesday night’s new episode, one of the easy assumptions to make was that it had to be one of the core members of the team (wouldn’t a steamy, secret office affair be fun?). As it turns out, this was not the case. The show found a rather-clever way to surprise us, and that was by revealing that it was actually Qasim, who we haven’t seen in some time. This does make the promotional strategy just a tad more unusual, given that we’re not sure how many people beyond the diehard “NCIS” fans out there are going to really remember who this character is. At the same time, this is a really nice tieback to older seasons and a way to give the diehard fans a fun memory.

Rest assured, though, you will be seeing more of him moving forward this season. Emily Wickersham revealed this to TV Guide, but was also quick to point out that in true show fashion, it’s not like we are going to suddenly have a situation where this character is always around. (“NCIS” likes to focus more on the cases then the personal lives of our characters).

She did also make it clear that she feels like her character can be happy in her relationship and where she is in life more so than she could a year ago:

“…Bishop, I feel, is at this point where she’s happy. I think last season we saw her really struggling with a lot of stuff personally. Before the divorce there was a struggle, and then after the divorce. And now, after taking time for herself, I feel like she is at a strong point personally, feels confident and capable. She was a little beat up last season. So I think this really shows how far she’s come, and that she’s gone through all this stuff. She’s doing really well. She was doing well alone, but also this thing just kind of happened. She’s good.”

Will it last? We’ll just have to wait and see on that. This is a particularly romantic time for the team, though, given that we did just witness the engagement of McGee and Delilah. Who knows what other sort of romance could be coming?
