‘This Is Us’ episode 9 preview: ‘The Trip,’ and Randall’s hope for answers
Tonight’s new episode of “This Is Us” will likely be an emotional one for many, and for several different reasons. Not only do we imagine that the subject matter will have a certain degree of tenderness to it, but you also have to think about the timing: We’re getting a Thanksgiving episode right around Turkey Day, and that may bring back memories that many people have of their own.
“The Trip” is the title for the next new episode, and it’s meant to be thought of as the aftermath to everything that you see on the show tonight. Not only that, but it should further bridge the gap between what we saw during Thanksgiving and what we’re going to be seeing for the upcoming Christmas installment airing early next month.
Synopsis – “Kate, Kevin and Randall head to their family’s cabin to get away after their chaotic family Thanksgiving. A very angry Randall finds comfort and explanation from his father, Jack. Olivia speaks a harsh truth to Kate, which drives a wedge between Kate and Kevin. Rebecca and Jack struggle with what to do when 9-year-old Randall tells them that he’s been looking for his birth parents.”
Yes, all of this does certainly sound rather dramatic, but did you expect anything less at the moment? The one thing we have to do for the most part is hope … hope for a better future and a stronger tomorrow. There are going to be clear wounds that open up in this episode, but they’re family. Hopefully, over the course of the next several episodes we’re going to see more and more of that family dynamic play out and create some beautiful, touching moments where characters start to come back together.
