Should ‘American Horror Story’ season 7 start in September once more?

Roanoke -

This year, “American Horror Story” did several things that were rather different, starting obviously with the entire promotional strategy that they used around “My Roanoke Nightmare.” They did not want anyone to know precisely what they were up to in advance, and when it comes to cultivating a big surprise, it’s relatively easy to understand why — things were much cooler this way. Also, we don’t think that this was a season that was particularly easy to promote in the first place.

Now that we’ve said all of this, let’s talk the other main difference: The schedule. The first five seasons started later in the fall, which was good in that it could be promoted even more around Halloween. Yet, at the same time they all faced a dilemma where they would have to go off the air for a stretch of time during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and would finish off their run on the network early the following year.

So in looking now towards season 7, the next question that we wonder is relatively simple: Will FX do this again? Is there more incentive for the early start? In terms of ratings, there wasn’t much of a difference between “Roanoke” and “Hotel.” Ratings overall were up slightly, though you can attribute that in part to the show having fewer overall episodes and not having any airing around those aforementioned hiatus. There weren’t many obvious benefits to scheduling things this way, but it must be a relief to have the entire season out there to the point where you don’t have to worry about people going away from the show.

Yet, premiering your season a little bit later may keep you on the air a little longer in terms of the time from the premiere date and the finale, and because it’ll fall even more in the awards-season window, maybe your odds of getting a Golden Globe nomination are a little higher.

At the end of the day, we want to know what you think: Should season 7 of the show premiere later in the fall, or should it follow the pattern of season 6? Be sure to share below.
