Ratings: ‘The Voice’ falls,’ ‘Supergirl’ surges; ‘Scorpion,’ ‘Timeless’ even

There are some interesting patterns that are coming out of the ratings for Monday night’s television lineup, but as a whole, the one thing that we’d say more so than anything else is that NFL football is, once again, playing a role in the TV landscape. We’ll get into what exactly that means in a moment.

CBS – It was a mixed night for CBS as they try to get a consistent night of comedy going again on Mondays. “Kevin Can Wait” (1.5) dropped slightly, while “Man with a Plan” (1.3) was pretty even. Meanwhile, “2 Broke Girls” (1.4) improved from its most-recent outing, while “The Odd Couple” (1.1) was slightly better, but still the weak link on the night. “Scorpion” (1.2) matched last week’s rating.

NBC – “The Voice” continued one of its trends, and that is falling over the course of the season. Its 2.1 rating is still good, but this is a show that easily used to get over a 3.0 on average. “Timeless” tied “Scorpion” with a 1.2 in closing the night.

ABC – “Dancing with the Stars” actually improved to a 1.8 rating for the first night of its two-day finale event, which is a cause of some celebration. Unfortunately, “Conviction” (0.8) remains a bit of a dud, but at least ABC seems fine to let the show run out its course and not just pull it away from the viewers that are committed to it.

Fox – “Gotham” dropped slightly to a 1.1, while “Lucifer” did the same thing to a 1.0. These ratings are weak, but not altogether terrible when you consider how the network is faring on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at present. They really only have one good night in Wednesdays.

The CW – At first glance, seeing “Supergirl” get a 1.0 and “Jane the Virgin” a 0.6 is exciting; however, we have a feeling that preemptions for the NFL game last night, broadcast out of market on ESPN, played a role. We expect both to experience some declines, especially the latter since 0.6 would mark one of its strongest ratings ever.
