‘Arrow’ season 5: On ‘saying goodbye’ in 100th episode

Arrow -

Closure. That’s not something that Oliver Queen gets a lot of on “Arrow.” He lost his father at the very beginning of the season, while Slade Wilson killed his mother in season 2. He lost Laurel Lance at the hands of Damien Darhk, and while there are other people still in his life, his actions have altered their existence in a significant way.

Therefore, there’s something about the upcoming 100th episode that will be rather special, since it will somehow offer Oliver a chance to say these goodbyes in a way that he wouldn’t otherwise be able to. There are elements of this convention, which features Laurel, Moira, and Robert somehow still alive, that sound almost akin to Flashpoint; yet, no one in the cast is necessarily drawing a one-for-one comparison between what’s happening here and what we saw on “The Flash.” We’ll just have to see precisely what’s going on here.

What we do have is the following tease from Stephen Amell to TVLine, who makes it very clear that this is going to be a rather emotional hour of TV to behold:

“There [is] a very therapeutic moment for my character towards the end [of the Arrow episode] where I get to say goodbye to people that I never got the chance to say goodbye to.”

The long-term ramifications of this episode should prove to be the most interesting, given that we have to assume that Oliver’s not living within this universe forever. Also, there are still questions aplenty regarding how in the world we’re going to be seeing Laurel end back up within the CW universe — after all, Katie Cassidy is a series regular across all of the shows, even if we’ve yet to see her this season.
