‘The Walking Dead’ season 7, episode 5: Lauren Cohan on Maggie’s future

twdTonight’s new episode of “The Walking Dead” was certainly emotional at times, given that this marked one of the first opportunities we had to really hone in on the character of Maggie ever since the death of Glenn. As you would imagine, this was a difficult struggle for her, but by the end of the episode, she was showing a remarkable amount of power and strength for someone in her position. Not only did she sock Gregory in the face, but at the same exact time she also took the time to announce that her name was “Maggie Rhee,” a sign that she was carrying a little bit of Glenn with her courtesy of her name.

So where are we going to see Maggie go from here? Speaking in a new interview on this subject to Entertainment Weekly, Lauren Cohan passed along the following message:

“Generally, the punch she gave Gregory is probably the taste of what’s to come. We will see more of that Maggie. And then on an emotional level, we see this girl with responsibility to others who’s trying to live up to the people she learned from. Glenn is gone and Hershel is gone, and she’s sort of just trying to do what they would have expected and what they taught her to do and what they learned and what she learned with them. So, those are the shoes she’s stepping into now as she guides people that need her. Everybody’s got jobs to do and she’s stepping into those shoes.”

We anticipate Maggie becoming more of a leader, and in the end, the Hilltop certainly needs it given the sense of chaos that is there and the terrible arrangement with Negan. Slowly and surely, we are starting to see a situation where all of the communities could unite against the Saviors. It may just take a lot of time and effort for it to happen.
