‘Shameless’ season 7, episode 9 preview: Monica returns, bad reviews, and marriage counseling
What is it with “Ouroboros” suddenly becoming a popular episode title? This is a reference to famous imagery regarding a snake eating its own tail, and next week’s “Shameless” will be the third show in the past year and a half, of our knowledge, to use it in the name.
While we could go on about that for a little while here if we really wanted to, we concede that this is not, at least for the most part, why the majority of the people out there are going to be watching the next all-new episode in order to see. Instead, this marks a rather wonderful opportunity in order for us to see the return of a character in Monica who hasn’t exactly been a regular presence in the lives of many of these characters, and we imagine that there will be some resentment around as a result of that.
Synopsis (via TV Guide) – “Monica returns and her first task is to help Debbie get Franny back. Meanwhile, Frank learns of Monica’s return and tries to avoid her; Lip tries to mask his relapsing alcoholism; Ian and Trevor fight for the first time; Fiona’s laundromat gets its first bad review; and Kev and V seek out marriage counseling for their woes with Svetlana.”
Now, will Monica actually be around the remainder of the season? That to us is one of the larger questions, given that we think there is certainly a rather enormous chance that this character is going to turn up, say and do a few things, and then prepare to leave again with a trail of heartache in her wake. Her actions are one of the many reasons that the Gallagher family acts the way that they do, but at the same time, we don’t really get much of an indication that she really cares about that in the slightest.
