Ratings: ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ winter finales, ‘Supernatural’ rise
The ratings for Thursday night were a little bit different than usual, and there is one primary reason why: Thursday Night Football over on NBC, otherwise known as that one program that airs games that nobody outside of regional markets tend to care about, even if they do somehow generate great ratings nonetheless. At least those of you who are TV purists can appreciate the fact that the game between the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints was not #1 on the night — its 2.7 rating (tentatively) in the 18-49 demographic was defeated by the folks over at CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” (3.1).
Let’s go ahead and dive into the ratings for the rest of the night — since NBC had football, there’s nothing else to discuss there.
CBS – Following the Jim Parsons – Kaley Cuoco comedy, “The Great Indoors” dropped to a 1.5 rating, which we think is slightly troublesome given that it’s getting less than 50% of its lead-in at this point. For any show, that’s bad. At least it has a full-season order, right? “Mom” (1.4), “Life in Pieces” (1.4), and “Pure Genius” (0.9) all stayed within striking distance of where they were the prior week.
ABC – “Grey’s Anatomy” surged up to a 2.1 for its winter finale, reminding us yet again that this is the show that will never die — hopefully, anyway. This is ABC’s top-rated scripted drama, and we’re saying that in its thirteenth year on the air. Pretty outstanding no matter how you slice it.
Also, “Notorious” held firm at around a 0.9, and the winter finale of “How to Get Away with Murder” (1.4) also improved on the night.
Fox – “Rosewood” (0.7) and “Pitch” (0.7) made the smallest of gains in the raw numbers, but nothing to leave us more optimistic about their individual fates on the air moving forward.
The CW – “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” coming off of an extension to its overall episode order, kept steady around a 0.6; meanwhile, “Supernatural” a.k.a. the other show that hopefully never die, improved to a 0.7. (Photo: ABC.)
