Ratings: ‘Empire’ season 3, ‘Criminal Minds’ recover; ‘Arrow,’ ‘Blindspot’ steady

Empire -On Tuesday, we saw a good many substantial improvements and declines in the ratings, with there being a rather simple reason for that: There was no election or World Series to divide the numbers up further!

In looking at the ratings that we’ve got for Wednesday’s primetime lineup, we’re seeing a little bit more in the way of consistency, given that there wasn’t too much in the way of competition holding people back this past time.

CBS – “Survivor” (1.8) and “Code Black” (0.9) both were reasonably steady versus some prior episodes, so there’s nothing altogether notable to report here beyond that we do hope that “Survivor” fans continue to watch live — the show’s down 8% versus the “Second Chance” one this past fall; while we know that’s not a huge decline year-to-year in this era, every little bit helps.

Meanwhile, “Criminal Minds” (1.4) recovered slightly from its most-recent episode; it’ll be interesting to see how the show now fares following the official exit of star Thomas Gibson.

Fox – “Lethal Weapon” continues to be fairly solid with a 1.7 rating, which makes it all the more clear to us that this is a show likely to pick up a season 2 renewal a little later this year. Meanwhile, “Empire” had one of the night’s notable recoveries, improving from a series low up to a 3.1.

NBC – “Chicago PD” averaged a 1.2 over the course of its two hours on the night, which is slightly better than the 1.1 that “Blindspot” posted. Neither one of these shows is necessarily killing it, but they are at least fairly consistent.

ABC – On the comedy front, “The Goldbergs” (1.8), “Speechless” (1.6), and “Modern Family” (2.2) posted some minor declines. Meanwhile, “Designated Survivor” stayed right about even.

The CW – “Arrow” (0.7) is continuing to hold firm to its average so far this season, while “Frequency” (0.3) continued to show why The CW isn’t planning to order more episodes beyond the original thirteen.
