Is ‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4, episode 7 new tonight? More ‘Inhumans’ discussion

Let’s start this discussion of “Agents of SHIELD” with what is a fairly simple reminder that there is, once again, no new episode airing tonight on ABC.

It would be understandable if you thought that there would be, even though there was a repeat last week — almost everything was off the air due to the Presidential Election, and the majority of other shows are all coming back. Sometimes it is hard to read the tea leaves as to why shows go on hiatus, but for this one it feels relatively simple that ABC didn’t want to come back tonight, give you one new episode, and then go on another hiatus due to the “Dancing with the Stars” finale. They figured it better to give you a series of new episodes starting on November 29 before you get around to the winter finale.

Now that we’ve mapped all of this out, let’s touch on something else that is certainly a huge subject of conversation at the moment: “The Inhumans.” It was reported yesterday that ABC is in the process of developing a series based on Black Bolt and the Royal Family to air in the fall of 2017, and that’s an exciting proposition. Will it air alongside “SHIELD” or as a replacement to it? That remains to be seen.

The one thing that we do feel is that one way or another, you do have to get Chloe Bennet over there as Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake just because she is the most notable Inhuman we’ve met through the TV version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, and even if “SHIELD” ends, this would be a great way for its memory to stay alive in another shape or form. We do think that there are ways that you can bring over some characters to this new show without tampering with what’s already been established here on ABC or messing with its legacy. Ultimately, it’s just another chance to add to the fun and the richness of the world.

We’ll see what ABC is planning hopefully by early next year; we’re sure it will be a hot topic at the winter portion of the TCA Press Tour.
