‘Scorpion’ season 3, episode 8 review: Remembering Megan; Toby, Happy’s wedding debate
From the onset, it certainly appeared as though there was a chance for “Scorpion” Monday night to dive into some emotional subject matter. After all, this marked an opportunity to see a little bit more of Walter O’Brien’s family and loved ones in Ireland as he and Sylvester hoped to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Megan’s death.
Before we get too much further into this review, let’s go ahead and hand down some congratulations to the show for remembering that characters matter even when they are not alive anymore. Megan obviously had a tremendous impact on the lives of both men, but in true “Scorpion” fashion, they each had very different reactions to making the trip. For Walter, he viewed matters a little more analytical. He did care about his sister, but did not hold most of the remainder in his family in a particularly high regard.
Meanwhile, Sylvester wanted to legitimately get to know these people, and took advantage of the trip as an opportunity to build more connections with his late wife. Unfortunately, there were some complications; namely, a dangerous crisis at a local lake that was killing off fish, and could soon lead to the destruction of the entire community if there was not some actually quickly taken. That meant diverting some of the family away from the lake, and Sylvester found himself quickly emotionally-manipulating many of the people he was so desperate to get to know.
One other problem that we saw the team suddenly running into while overseas was the mounting tension between Walter and Tim, who clearly had very different visions for how the mission needed to be handled. Of course, this was really all about Paige more so than anything else, and Walter knowing that this guy was in the way of their opportunity to be together. To make matters worse, Walter also had to worry about the majority of his relatives doubting his ability to get the job done and care for their land. His intuition was right, but there is certainly something to be said for needing to be a little more polite here.
Luckily, our heroes once again did save the day, and there was something that Walter may have learned in the process here about the power of teamwork: He and Tim managed to team up to keep the entire family safe, and didn’t kill each other in the process. Instead, we saw Tim train Walter enough to (briefly) be able to hold his own in a fight. It just didn’t last long.
At the end of all of the chaos, we settled back in more to a serious moments as Megan’s gravestone was revealed, and Walter and Sylvester shared a sweet moment. This was the moment to finally reconcile Walter with most of his family, which was good when it comes to timing given that by the end of the ceremony, the two guys had to head back home with the rest of the team who made the trip.
The latest on Happy and Toby – Thanks to what happened last week, Happy was … happy to start preparing for a life with Toby. That including filing for divorce from Walter, who was now officially a citizen and didn’t have to worry about that anymore.
Granted, there was still some tension on some other subject: The wedding itself. Toby wants to show off Happy to everyone, as he (hilariously) said that he wants to prove to everyone back home that he can snag the woman of his dream. Eventually, it was Cabe who helped Happy to come around on the idea, thanks to hearing briefly about his own ceremony.
Overall – We’re not sure how Cabe got the cut of pork randomly back from Ireland — that may be the biggest mystery of the episode. The rest of this was fun, emotional at times, and heartfelt at others. It was nice to see Megan’s memory honored, and for Walter and Tim to start to get along. Grade: B+.
Next week – Paige’s mother is going to be appearing, and if that was not exciting enough, know this — she’s being played by Lea Thompson!

Honestly it really seemed phoned in. There seemed to be no threat, (i know you can’t see the gas), or urgency in the mission. The fight was sudden and ubrupt in how was how it was stopped (dad: don’t do it, Walt: I must, mom: don’t, Walt: Ok.) Not my favorite episode, but I guess we had character development…
