‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series still being considered

It makes more sense than we can possibly put into an article that HBO would want to consider the “Game of Thrones” franchise in some sort of shape or form. Let’s just put it this way: They’d be completely out of their minds not to. We’re not just talking about a show here with decent ratings and a few awards; it’s an Emmy powerhouse, and the highest-rated show in the history of the network.

With that being said, we’re also not advocating that the producers just throw something on the air for the sake of doing so, given that you don’t want to just put something on the air for the sake of doing so, and then hope that people continue to watch. That’s where you get a show like “Joey” entering play. Unless you’ve got a “Better Call Saul” level of an idea, it’s better to not taint your legacy.

Therefore, HBO is taking its time when determining the future of the show; per Entertainment Weekly, the network’s programming head Casey Bloys is looking at various ideas, but not circling one as a certainty just yet:

“I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks … There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”

Given that author George R.R. Martin has an extensive amount of Westeros history out there, it makes sense that a prequel would be considered more so than anything else … and we’re a little more divided on that. From one vantage point, we understand the interest that is out there in setting up “Game of Thrones” further, but there’s not the same sort of suspense if you have an estimation of the ending in advance. By the same token, you can get that with a sequel, but you run the risk of making the end of the original feel less important. That is why so many get nervous at the idea of continuing on if you feel like the ending, as already established, is perfect.
