‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ not selling ‘We’re Still Here’ hats after finale
Who knew that hats would become such an iconic part of the Presidential Election this year? It was a good while ago that we first saw Donald Trump don the now-infamous “Make America Great Again” cap, and in following that, we also had John Oliver mock it earlier this year with a “Make Donald Drumpf Again” cap. Following John’s segment he and HBO announced that they were going to sell these hats at stock, which he joked was something that would anger Trump more than anything that he actually said in the entire segment.
On Friday night’s season finale of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” we saw the host do the same thing with blue hats bearing “We’re Still Here,” which was meant to be a rallying cry that those who opposed Trump are not gone just because of the election. He gave some away to the audience, but there’s one difference: These are not being sold publicly.
This news was confirmed via Deadline, even though there are already some knock-offs floating around out there. That’s a slight bummer to us given that they’d probably sell ridiculous well, though at the same time at this point most of the world has started to move forward. That’s the reality of the current news cycle: We’re going a mile per second thanks to the aftermath of the election.
The other bummer that we have to report on is simply that we’re not going to have any more Maher on the air now until after the holiday season. By that time, Trump will be getting close to taking the office of President.
