‘Call the Midwife’ 2016 Christmas Special: Meet one of the new characters
If it feels like it’s been a long time since you’ve seen “Call the Midwife” or read much in the way of news about it, there’s a pretty darn good reason for that: The show’s been off of the air now for a rather-long time, and we haven’t been close enough to the Christmas Special to get a whole lot of information about it — at least until now.
In the image below courtesy of the show’s official Facebook page, you can at least get the sense of one of the new people who will be around as Trixie, Barbara, and many other characters leave Nonnatus House behind in order to help many people in need in South Africa. The character’s name is Myra Fitzsimmons, and she is played by acclaimed actress Sinéad Cusack. She runs the Hope Clinic in Western Cape, and will do everything that she can in order to help these people in need. Unfortunately, at the same time she is well aware of the fact that many of these people are going to need a tremendous amount of support, and there is only so much she can offer up on her own.
Now, enter the midwives! We don’t quite know how this story will go just yet, but our presumption is that it will feel somewhat familiar to people who know the show rather well already. While we’re going to be venturing over to a new place, this is still the same show with the same characters you know and love. The excitement here is going to come out of seeing what happens when you throw them into a new environment and seeing their natural instincts kick in.
For viewers of the BBC, this special will (of course) be coming your way this coming Christmas. Stay tuned to receive further updates!
