‘Supergirl’ season 2: Questions galore on Lena Luthor’s mom

Lena -

What in the world was with that reveal at the end of Monday night’s new episode of “Supergirl“? We know now a little bit more about the character of Lena Luthor than we did previously, at least in terms of how her mother Lillian is actually one of the people responsible for Project Cadmus, the organization at the center of most of the season’s problems so far.

Now that we know that, how involved is Lena in all of this? That’s the big question for now, given that when Lena first surfaced in National City, much of her argument was that she was there to try and turn over a new life, and prove to the world that the Luthor family name was not just a pile of garbage. There could be a light at the end of the tunnel for the family if all of that proves to be the case — it’s just all in doubt now thanks to knowing the truth now about Lillian.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg made it clear precisely what sort of questions you are meant to be wondering now moving forward:

“You’re supposed to be left wondering how involved Lena is. We’ve seen that Lillian Luthor is somebody not to be messed with. She clearly wields a great deal of power and scientific knowhow. What exactly is her relationship with her daughter, and exactly how much Lena is involved with Cadmus, makes up part of the excitement factor for these next few episodes.”

There is an interesting parallel now in some ways between Lena and Kara, at least in that they both have a family member up to no good. Last season, Kara had her aunt Astra; sure, Lena already had her infamous brother Lex, but at the same time we’ve never met him on the show and it’s easy to put him out of sight and out of mind.

We’re mostly just glad we have this twist given that otherwise, we didn’t know how we were going to continue seeing Lena as an integral part of the story this season.
