‘South Park’ season 20 re-tools Presidential Election episode after Donald Trump win
Over the years, “South Park” has developed quite a reputation over time for quick changes at the last minute. They’ve done it to cover major pop-culture events in the past, and going into Wednesday night’s new episode, they’re once again doing it to ensure that their story is as relevant as humanly possible when it comes to the Presidential Election.
Originally, we have a feeling that the Comedy Central series planned the episode out for a Hillary Clinton win, given that the title was “The Very First Gentleman” — a clear reference to her husband and former President Bill.
Now, Entertainment Weekly reports that this particular episode now has a new title in “Oh, Jeez” — and you can see a new preview for it below as a reaction to precisely what the “South Park” point of view is to Donald Trump winning the presidency.
Our feeling is that most likely, show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone had a plan just in case Trump did win the election so that they could piece something together at the last minute; from there, they probably just had to fill in the cracks and get the episode on the air. At least they had a day to piece a few things together; we clearly saw last night during some late-night comedy coverage just how challenging it was for some to cover the election, given both the unexpected nature of the Trump victory and then also the fact that the results weren’t even official at the time of many of the broadcasts.
We’re sure that “South Park” will get some strong ratings for this episode — even though for some, we’ve got a feeling that it’s all a little too raw still and it’ll take a little bit of time for everyone to be ready for political comedy again.
