‘Pretty Little Liars’ series finale: What does the source author want to see?

PLL -The series finale of “Pretty Little Liars” is now wrapped, or at least that’s the case for the cast who worked on it on set. There are still many stages to get the show to air on Freeform later this spring, including editing, adding the proper music and sound effects, and any recordings that the cast has to go in and do after the fact. For the most part, we’re now in post-production.

What may surprise you, though, is that the author responsible for writing the books that the show is based on doesn’t necessarily know how the series is coming to a close. Why? She chooses to have it that way. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Sara Shepard revealed that she deliberately tells the folks behind the show to not tell her too much, as she wants to enjoy their interpretation of the story as a fan. It’s nice that she has this perspective, and also that she doesn’t feel the need to assert some big creative control over what Marlene King and the writers do. She recognizes that the books and the show are two separate things and that’s fine. It’s a perspective that we’ve also seen with George R.R. Martin and “Game of Thrones” or Robert Kirkman and “The Walking Dead,” even if these two are hands-on to varying degrees with their programs.

Shepard was keen enough at least to discuss further some of what she would like to see for some of her favorite characters on the show moving forward, proving further that she really is one of the fans who has the same ‘shipper dreams as many of us.

“I really hope some couples reunite — the core ones like Spoby, Haleb, and Ezria. And I’m a big Emison fan, so I would love to see that happen. As for AD, I thought the previous A — Cece/ Charlotte — was pulled off so expertly (I didn’t see it coming!) that I hope this reveal is just as juicy and shocking. Knowing the team that writes the show, it’s certain to be!”

We’ve said it before, and it bears repeating — we do think “Pretty Little Liars” will offer up a finale that pleases many of the fans, mostly because they are certainly cognizant of what many of them want and the fact that they’ve been on this journey for so many years. They want them to feel like it’s worth it.
