‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13 spoilers: Expect trouble in the skies
If you look back at the past few seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” we’d continue to argue that “Flight” may be among one of the two or three most gut-wrenching episodes of the show ever created. (We’d probably have it behind “How to Save a Life,” and that may be it.) After all, this is an episode that featured a plane crash that not only led to the death of Meredith’s sister Lexie, but also that of Mark Sloan in the early going of the following season. The settlement that followed directly led to many of the doctors eventually purchasing the hospital. If you are looking for an episode that has more long-term ramifications for the show than almost any other, this may be it.
So why are we going back to the air for another episode? It’s a worthy question, given that there are so many people in the fanbase who still have some trauma about “Flight.” Well, we do think the story that is being planned this time around is probably different in a few ways.
According to TVLine, one upcoming season 13 episode is going to feature a crisis that is aboard a commercial flight, which to us probably means that a doctor will be most likely aboard to try to attend to whatever is happening. We doubt that the show is going the full plane-crash route again, given that there is a distinct “been there, done that” feeling surrounding that.
The report also mentions that the character in question for the crash is not Sara Ramirez’s Callie, so you can go ahead and write her off as a possibility for the person involved. It made sense to ponder this given the nature of her custody arrangement with Arizona. Then again, maybe you could see this being a key Arizona story, and we’d certainly take that since a Jessica Capshaw feature would help to compensate for not having much of her in the first few episodes of the season.
