Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0’ wins night with 150th episode; ‘MacGyver,’ ‘Vampire Diaries’ rise
Friday night was a chance for recovery for many primetime shows. The World Series was over, and with that, there was no more major competition. Granted, it’s also silly to think that every person watching the Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians matchup is interested in Friday-night television. It’s a special group who’s committed to many of these shows — specifically, it’s the group of people we love catering to on this site.
The best news of the night comes for fans of “Hawaii Five-0,” given that the 150th episode ended up drawing a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic — enough to make it the #1 show on the night. It’s very interesting what a difference a year makes! At this point last fall we were starting to question whether CBS was going to do away with this show, and now, we’re starting to feel very confident about its ability to get an eighth season. Beyond that … well, let’s just say there’s been a lot of conversation on that this week already.
As for some other ratings from last night, “MacGyver” improved to a 1.1 rating, tying it with “Blue Bloods” and “Shark Tank.” None of these shows are exactly blowing the roof off, but they’re doing well enough to feel reasonably secure in their future on the air. Meanwhile, “The Vampire Diaries” improved to a 0.4 after the final ratings this past week weren’t exactly kind to it.
Finally over on Fox, “Hell’s Kitchen” (1.1) proved further that it’s the show that just won’t die; meanwhile, “The Exorcist” held onto its 0.7 rating. That may not get it renewed, but at least it’s holding fairly steady and doing better than some shows on Fox Friday nights over the years.
