‘NCIS’ season 14 names new showrunners following Gary Glasberg’s death
Before we dive too deep into this article, let’s first acknowledge that CBS handled the situation following Gary Glasberg’s death just about as respectfully as you could. They made sure that proper tributes to the “NCIS” showrunner were handed down on social media and on the show itself, and they didn’t rush into naming new replacements. They let the situation breathe a little bit before announcing their next move.
Today, they did just that. In a statement (per Deadline), George Schenck and Frank Cardea were announced to be the new showrunners for the long-running series moving forward. It was long expected that the network would promote from within, and that makes the most sense given that you have thirteen years of history and you want someone familiar with the brand to try and push the show forward. Schenck and Cardea joined the series all the way back in the first season, and already served as writers and executive producers prior to this promotion. They’ll know the right way to steer the ship forward and continue to balance out the serious tone with occasional moments of humor — something that is known as a bit of a franchise staple.
Here is what the two men had to say about assuming the new position:
“The NCIS family suffered a tragic loss with the sudden passing of our showrunner, Gary Glasberg … It’s with heavy hearts that we assume his duties. We are fortunate to be surrounded by an incredibly talented and dedicated cast and crew, which will make the transition that much easier. Thank you to the NCIS fans for the outpouring of love we have all received.”
The series is adopting a mantra of “the show must go on,” and there have been no announced schedule changes as a result of Glasberg’s passing. The series was preempted earlier in the week due to the World Series, and will be off next week due to the election.
