‘Girl Meets World’ season 3, episode 16 preview: What to expect from ‘Girl Meets Her Monster’

Girl Meets Her Monster -On Friday night’s new episode of “Girl Meets World” entitled “Girl Meets Her Monster,” is Riley Matthews really just going to meet … herself? It may be an odd question to frame in such a way, but that is something we find ourselves pondering as we get closer to it airing.

This is an episode that the Disney Channel for whatever reason waiting a long time to share some information on, other than a promo that gave us a slight sense as to what was going on in the half-hour. At the core of the story will be a conflict between Riley and Topanga that turns nuclear, and at one point leads to Rowan Blanchard’s character threatening to depart home for good. In some ways, you can attribute this to classic teenager behavior, since almost every person from the age of 12-18 at one point proclaims that they don’t need their parents anymore.

All of this conflict is cemented further in both the photo above (poor Cory) and also the official synopsis, which explains even further why Topanga is so upset at her daughter:

“Riley skips out on helping Topanga at the bakery to stay home and binge-watch her favorite TV show and Topanga is not pleased.”

As always with this show, there is probably more to this story than there appears superficially. For now, though, the real lesson that could be learned through this episode is empathy. People have to look at the world through the viewpoint of someone else here and there. Maybe Topanga is failing to realize that at this point in her life, Riley may not be so interested in mother-daughter bonding or being around the bakery — and that is no indictment on her. Yet, at the same time Riley has to realize that her mother may want this sort of bonding time, and she should find a way to bridge what she wants with what Topanga wants from her. It’s a delicate balance, and not something we would anticipate any ordinary person being able to figure out.
