Ratings: ‘Code Black,’ ‘Survivor,’ ‘Arrow’ suffer versus World Series; CMA Awards fares okay
It was a given that the World Series would be a destroyer of worlds on Wednesday night, and for the most part, that proved to be true — beyond of course the CMA Awards. While we know the awards-show has fared better in the ratings before, we’re not going to fault the show for getting a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic against a World Series featuring a team in the Chicago Cubs who hasn’t won the title in more than a hundred years.
For those curious, as of now the final game between the Cubs and Cleveland Indians drew over a 12.0 rating and close to 40 million viewers on the night. It’s not as big as the Super Bowl, but Major League Baseball probably doesn’t care.
There isn’t too much to discuss in the typical ratings report today as a result of all this, so let’s just cycle through some of the headlines.
“Survivor” – Yes, a 1.5 rating is bad for this show, especially one that delivered an epic blindside like the one we had last night. There’s still no cause for immediate concern, given that it will probably bounce back in a good way next week for the merge.
“Arrow” – While a 0.6 rating is not great for the series, it’s also not any different from recent ratings we’ve seen the show receive. For the time being, you may as well be happy with this performance. It could’ve been much worse.
“Code Black” – With a 0.7, this marks a new low for the medical drama, one that seems in danger of cancellation at this point. We understand wanting to give it a second chance for season 2, but it’s not paying off. To be fair, there were probably many people who just thought it wasn’t on last night because “Criminal Minds” was in repeats.
“Frequency” – It stayed low with a 0.3 rating. We don’t see it getting an extended run beyond the thirteen episodes initially ordered. (Photo: CBS.)
