‘This Is Us’ episode 7 preview: Kevin and Randall’s (modern) origin story
For this particular preview pertaining to “This Is Us,” it feels appropriate to begin with the bad news: There is no new episode airing on NBC next week. Due to the Presidential Election, we’re not going to have any typical primetime programming on the air — which we do understand, all things considered. Just remember for a moment or two here that there is no reason for any show to want to compete against the sort of ratings beastliness that’s going to be happening there. Also, it’s important to the country, and we say that without any deliberate attempt to be political. There are enough places online where you can see that sort of stuff.
If you’re bummed about the hiatus, look at it this way: You’ll have the show on for a week longer than you would have otherwise.
The next new episode of the show on NBC does have the best episode title of the entire series to date in “The Best Washing Machine in the Whole World.” It sounds almost like the name of one of those book-fair stories you’d see in elementary school. Somehow, we think that the story we’re going to be getting here is significantly more mature than that.
Synopsis – “The dynamic of Randall and Kevin’s rocky relationship is explained. Beth and William spend time together, which unexpectedly brings to light a secret William has been keeping. As Rebecca gets back to work for the first time in years, both she and Jack acknowledge that there is distance between them. Toby is caught straying from his diet regimen, throwing Kate into crisis.”
For those of you interested in being a “This Is Us” detective, this episode could bring you further clues as to some of the conflicts that defined Rebecca and Jack over the course of their time together. Meanwhile, seeing Randall and Kevin at odds makes us firmly believe that there was something that transpired in their shared past that brings them to the point they’re at in the present.
Promo – Get set for much of what we just told you about in the synopsis, given that we see in here Toby’s betrayal on Kate, Randall and Kevin’s family problems, and also a few other William-related notes as well. What this show does so effectively in this preview is that they make almost every moment in here matter; it’s a reflection of how in real life, things you say to your family members are important often beyond words.
