‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4, episode 6 video: You can’t contain Ghost Rider
In theory, we understand the idea of wanting to study Ghost Rider on “Agents of SHIELD.” After all, he’s differently than any other powered-up character SHIELD’s encountered since the pilot, and you want to be able to make the assumption that he is Inhuman.
However, there are some reasons to believe otherwise. The sneak peek below is in some ways dangerous, but in other ways completely hilarious. Seeing Coulson claim that the flaming skull is a pretty good argument for the whole “deal with the devil” justification certainly qualifies as more of the latter. The idea here seems to be that SHIELD wants to draw out the Spirit of Vengeance, but Fitz seems to think that he’s got the technology necessary in order to trap Robbie Reyes and keep that part of his personality from coming out. As it turns out, not so much. We instead see Ghost Rider tear right through the door, and the preview ends right before things start to get really interesting.
If you’ve seen some of the other promotional material from this episode already, you will know that this installment is poised to deliver some of the most significant Ghost Rider backstory to date as we get to figure out precisely who Robbie Reyes was before this happened, what caused it, and also more details about his life throughout. It’s easily the biggest hour of the season for the character.
Do we expect some changes from the recent comic adaptations of the character? Sure, but in general we’ve been more than happy with how “SHIELD” is carrying this character over to the masses and giving him new life.
