‘Gotham’ season 3 spoilers: Meet Selina Kyle’s mother

While Selina Kyle may be a child of the streets on “Gotham,” she of course is the child of an actual person. Who that person is, and precisely what their history with Selina is like, is something that will be explored a little bit later this season.

Sources confirm that Ivana Milicevic (“Banshee”) will be playing the part of Maria Kyle on the third season, and will appear in multiple episodes. Like her daughter, she carries with her a wide array of street smarts, and is incredibly tough due to having the sort of life where she had to earn everything that she needed in order to survive. What we do wonder, though, is whether or not seeing her mother will create somewhat of an unwelcome reflection for Selina. She will see the sort of person that she is, and in the process wonder if this is precisely the sort of person that she also wants to be moving forward. Maria obviously has not shown a whole lot of care for her daughter, and knowing the reason why could be integral for their relationship.

Already, we do know that times are changing for Selina in a big way, given that Bruce Wayne recently revealed to her that he has feelings for her, which is something that she seemed to appreciate; however, there’s a certain part of her that seems to enjoy the notion of toying with him about this for a little while. This all sets the stage perfectly for her becoming Catwoman later in life, given that she’ll know and understand the Caped Crusader better than almost anyone.

Tonight, there could be a different relationship that takes center stage in the one between Edward Nygma and Oswald Cobblepot.
