‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’: Some of the scariest stuff is still to come…
While we will not say that “American Horror Story: Roanoke” is the best that the franchise has delivered to us during its run on FX (for us that would be season 1 – “Murder House”), we do feel that it’s the show’s best season since “Asylum.” It feels less of a hodgepodge of a bunch of people Ryan Murphy likes to work with, and more of a concise exercise in restraint featuring people who we have time to forge connections with. Murphy can always go with other concepts to use his favorite actors, but for this show, it really is best if there is a certain degree of simplicity. the same goes for the scares. One of the other reasons this season works as well as it does is because there have been some really frightening moments, at least more so than in the past where there’s been more of a focus on gore and shock value like in “Hotel” and “Freak Show”.
Apparently, some of the scariest stuff is still to come. Speaking (per Entertainment Weekly) while at EW PopFest, Murphy commented on one upcoming episode in particular with the following message:
“It might be our most intense, true horror episode yet … It was very difficult to edit, just because it was so in your face. Many, many people die in it.”
This is a pretty crazy thought mostly because of the fact that there are so many people on the show who have died already, and we don’t know exactly how many more people there are left to kill off so that you’ve got at least some people left for the finale to root for. To be fair, though, “Roanoke” did tease previously that there was only going to be one person who makes it all the way to the end in the series finale of the show. Now it’s just a mater of learning who the sole survivor will be.
