‘Poldark’ season 2, episode 10 (finale) spoilers: Could Aidan Turner’s Ross rejoin the military?
The entire premise of “Poldark” revolved around Aidan Turner’s character of Ross returning home to Cornwall after serving in the military, but unfortunately for him, we’re not entirely sure that anything worked out in the way in which he hoped going in. Instead, what he’s encountered is a series of one problem after the next, culminating in him destroying his marriage to Demelza, who had stood by his side through losing a child and all of the financial problems with the mine. There was one part of his mind that could not let go of the past with Elizabeth, and in turn, he placed his future in jeopardy.
So could Ross look to start anew after Elizabeth’s marriage? Moving into next week’s season finale, it certainly looks as though he could opt to get back into the military once more to shake his life up, and this said indecision could make Demelza all the more full of rage — and understandably so.
Synopsis – “Dwight enlists in the navy to forget Caroline, and Demelza visits Verity to spend some time apart from Ross. While Ross considers rejoining his regiment, Elizabeth and George settle into married life, but George’s plans provoke the locals to riot.”
Preview – We saw in the preview tonight a fire, more tension with George, and also Ross wondering what his future could be. Should he stay in Cornwall, or try to fight the good fight elsewhere? Either way, it’s hard to label his recent actions as anything less than frustrating.
All in all, we anticipate that this is going to be an eventful finale full of surprises, and also seemingly full of people trying to find a way to move past all that they’ve done. Note that the show already was renewed for a third season, so there is no reason to be fearful about the show not coming back more after this. We just hope that there is some sort of epic ending to the story here that really sets the stage for what the third batch of episodes will be next year.

They’re actually going to do that “burning of Trenwith” crap that was in the 1975 series, but NEVER in the novel. What a cheap shot! Even worse, Demelza and Elizabeth never had a confrontation after the May 9th incident. If Horsfield expect me to cheer for Demelza in that scene, you can forget it. I’ll be too busy being disgusted.

Yeah, sadly it looks like Horsfield didn’t have the courage to concentrate on getting Ross and Demelza back together in the final episode. The way the last episode of series 2 seems to be going, there’ll be so much storywise trivial nonsense happening that there isn’t going to be time for them to find each other again, at least not in a way that would be satisfying to the viewers and faithful to their characters. I’d not be surprised if there’s to be a cliffhanger ending which leaves Ross and Demelza unreconciled.
I really don’t understand the need to add storylines and/or confrontational scenes that are not based on the book, because I’d dare to say the “target audience” of ‘Poldark’ isn’t watching the show for (gratuitous) action scenes. They are not going to get any new viewers this way but maybe succeed to alienate some old ones.

If he goes to war, could we see a Richard Sharpe/Ross Poldark team up?

I sure do enjoy Poldark. Aidan is going to be a big big star. He’s definitely on the way up.

He better not! The series has to remain true to the books!

It’s no more “true” to the novels than the 1970s series was.

It’s been awhile since I watched that series. YouTube had the videos, but I cannot find them any longer. Back then, I purchased the books after watching the series, but this time around, I have read them several times. You’re right, other than bits of dialogue; the writers do stray from the story quite a bit. However, sending Ross to war rather than making it up to Demelza would ruin the entire series. I’m also getting a little tired of Demelza harping on Ross all the time, while at the same time, weakening Ross’ character a bit. I guess that is what you get when a woman gets her hands on a book written by a man. I suppose we will find out what happens on Sunday, but I have to tell you, if they alter the story to that degree, there better be some pushback from viewers!
