Can ‘The Fall’ season 4 happen without Jamie Dornan?
Warning: There are some spoilers ahead for tonight’s season finale of “The Fall.”
While there could be a future still ahead for the BBC Two series (which airs on Netflix in the United States and will start streaming tomorrow), we learned one thing through Friday’s episode: If it happens, it will be without Jamie Dornan being one of the cast members.
Rather than have to spend the entirety of his life behind bars, Dornan’s Paul Spector hanged himself with a belt during the later part of the finale, which means that Stella Gibson in turn did not get what she wanted: Punishment courtesy of life in prison. Maybe this is a victory in that nobody else can ever be hurt by him again, but she was never interested in getting this sort of justice. She didn’t want it to happen via some sort of overtly violent means.
Now, we’re at an end of an era. It’s very likely that the story ends now and there is nothing more to tell. With that, maybe you can assume that Stella Gibson eventually finds piece and ends up not being so haunted by what happened. Then again, maybe this is the optimistic viewpoint that we want to imagine to be true. It’s also possible, unfortunately, that she remains forever tortured, and she tries to look for some sort of either comfort or distraction through some work elsewhere.
What we want to know from you is this: Would you watch another season featuring Gillian Anderson but no Dornan? Would you be interested in seeing another story? There’s no hurry for another season, but we do think that there’s a chance that this comes back at some point down the road if she is available and creator Allan Cubitt has an idea.
