‘Black Mirror’ season 4: Showrunners offer up brief progress report
The latest batch of “Black Mirror” episodes may be still be relatively new, but at the same time we gotta believe that the diehard fans out there have already burned through the majority of them if not all of them. It was, after all, a fairly short number of episodes, even though it’s pretty standard by British TV standards to have relatively short seasons.
We already presumed that the fourth season, otherwise known as the second batch of episodes already ordered, would be premiering in 2017. Now, that’s been confirmed based on what showrunners Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones had to say in a new Reddit AMA:
“We’re about to start shooting [the first episode] so as soon as we’ve finished that bit and shot another five, and then given them all a good polish. 2017 almost certainly, in other words.”
One of the best things about “Black Mirror” as a series is that conceptually, it tends to work no matter when you air it, or how long a layoff there is between seasons. This is because so many of its stories stand on their own two feet, it’s easy to digest, and the longer the show stays around (at least so long as the quality remains high), we imagine that more and more people will flock to it. This has to be another tremendous feather that Netflix has in its cap as it continues to produce solid, entertaining television that has a secure place in pop-culture zeitgeist. Few other providers have been able to compete with some of the buzz they’ve been getting as of late really across the board and Netflix only has more original series coming up within the next year. There’s a lot to look forward to.
