‘The Blacklist: Redemption’: Spin-off gets ‘Castle’ alum David Amann as showrunner
Production will begin on the eight-episode spin-off “The Blacklist: Redemption” next month, and we now know the name of the man responsible for steering the ship.
Per TVLine, “Castle” alum David Amann, who ran the seventh season of the show before departing for the eighth and final season, will be in charge of this upcoming midseason show, which stars Ryan Eggold as Tom Keen and Famke Janssen as Scottie Hargrave. This show will allow us to have a chance to see Tom working in a new environment and with a new group of people, but there are still some mysteries surrounding it. For example, it is still not entirely clear what would cause him to want to leave behind his wife Liz and his child Agnes for this venture, but we have to assume that it would be something enormous and life-altering.
This spin-off series doesn’t have a premiere date just yet, but we imagine that one of its functions could be as a way to give NBC some content while the flagship show with James Spader and Megan Boone is on hiatus. With production looming, we also imagine that something will happen to write Tom off of this show fairly soon. To date, he’s remained a key part of season 4 as though there was no spin-off show happening at all, which only further aids the confusion regarding what could be happening with him.
We do think in the end that “Blacklist” creator Jon Bokenkamp and the other executive producers made the right move. Amann was great on “Castle” for years before even getting the job as showrunner, and he knows this particular genre of television well.

Something weird is going on with TBL spinoff. If you REALLY look at the so-called back-door pilot, it’s nothing but a mirror image of the mothership. And why just 8 episodes? And as a couple of puzzle people on another site have already figured out, Janssen is not going to be TOM”S MOM. TBL is not creating another original series. They are just splitting the same story into 2 shows. Have to say that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
