‘Saturday Night Live’ video: Tom Hanks jokes about returning to host

SNL -This weekend, “Saturday Night Live” is going to be doing something that is for them exceptionally rare: Giving us a new episode for the fourth week in a row. Given how exhausting this has to be for the cast and crew, we’re imaging people pitching tents in offices and getting sleep at any point they can.

One thing that does make this upcoming show a little different than some of the others as of late is that instead of the typical promo, all NBC released overnight was a 15-second clip that is mostly a retrospective of some of Tom Hanks’ greatest appearances on the show before returning to host again this weekend. He jokes in the clip that he hopes this show will be his “big break” this time.

It’s been many years since Hanks was last on the show. As a matter of fact, Kenan Thompson is the only cast member who was there when he was last in the studio. Yet, Hanks probably is so beloved by this cast that they’ll flock around him quickly. Including this upcoming appearance, there are only four people who have hosted “SNL” more than him: Steve Martin, record holder Alec Baldwin, John Goodman, and Buck Henry, who made many of his hosting appearances early in the show’s run many years ago.

Will Hanks get a chance to make it into double digits as host? We certainly hope that this show is a launching pad towards getting there in the future. We certainly expect it to be funny, given that he’s typically game for anything and we could see him annually on the show and be incredibly happy.
