NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Brendan Fletcher, Whitney & Shannon, Bindi Liebowitz close Battle Rounds

VoiceThe Battles on “The Voice” are continuing tonight, and given that the Knockout Rounds are starting next week, consider this show the prime opportunity to tie together all of the remaining sing-off that we’re going to be having over the remainder of this season.

As per usual with these reviews, we’re going to be giving you some further updates on the show live! Be sure to check back soon for more updates.

Austin Allsup vs. Preston James, Team Blake – We feel for Preston here, given that he gave a pretty good performance, and it was good enough enough to probably advance in some other battles we’ve seen. Unfortunately, he ran into a bit of a bulldozer here in Austin. It’s a good thing that Austin gave the better overall performance, since that should keep all of that nepotism talk at bay for a little while.

Whitney & Shannon vs. Gabriel Violett, Team Alicia – This was the battle that made the typically-verbose Miley Cyrus speechless, and we do agree that it was heartfelt and extremely captivating to watch. While we’re bummed to see Gabriel go here, at the same time we’re glad Whitney & Shannon won. It’s so rare to see duo acts make it far in the competition that we have a natural proclivity to root for the two of them.

Brendan Fletcher vs. Bindi Liebowitz, Team Adam – It’s our last battle of the season, and you know what that means — Blake’s going to have to steal whoever loses! In this case, it was Bindi, and while she was deserving, from a critical standpoint this exposes yet again the fundamental flaw with this part of the competition. There’s never any real drama when we get to this part of the show, since you know both artists are moving on.
