‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Show execs on May’s new life

This past episode of “Agents of SHIELD” was definitely a dramatic one, and we mean that especially when it comes to the character of Melinda May. This is a woman who was effectively poisoned early on in the season, it took some rather special circumstances to get her back alive and in one piece. While in some ways maybe everything is back to normal for her, she’s still been through this undeniable experience, and we have to figure that this is going to stick with her.

So what are we going to see from May moving forward? As executive producer Jed Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly, there could be a little more common ground between her and Coulson, given that he went through something rather horrific in his own way before the start of the series:

“Well, she’s May, so she’s kind of like, ‘Oh, that happened.’ But she now has common ground with Coulson, as if they didn’t have enough common ground as it is.”

The long-term ramifications of what happened may be felt a little bit more down the road, as fellow EP Maurissa Tancharoen noted that this story “will impact her life in ways that you may not expect at this point in time.” We may just have to be a little bit more patient to see precisely how all of that shakes out moving forward. In the near future, stopping / figuring out Ghost Rider is going to be one priority, as is making sure that the government doesn’t end up doing more harm to Inhumans as the result of a few. An uprising is beginning against them, and it is a very dangerous thing for everyone associated with the organization.
