‘Supernatural’ season 12 spoilers: Sam and Dean venture off the grid
While you can certainly make the argument that Sam and Dean Winchester on “Supernatural” live a life that is certainly off the beaten path, that may still be somewhat normal in comparison to some of the people we’re going to see them collide with on the upcoming November 3 episode of the show entitled “American Nightmare.” (Is that meant to be some sort of nod to “American Horror Story”? It’s a little early to tell, but for the time being we’re not ruling out that possibility.)
What we can tell you about this episode for now is rather simple: We’re going to see the two guys investigate a complicated case, one that leaves them far off the grid to a deeply religious family. Could we be looking at some sort of cult here? It’s possible, but this feels very much in the vein of what the show is trying to do this season: Tell interesting, bizarre stories that feel very different from the past season or two while exciting at the same time.
One other story point that is interesting to note about this episode comes from The CW’s official synopsis: “Dean struggles to accept Mary’s (guest star Samantha Smith) latest decision.” It may be a little early at present to know for sure what that exactly means, but it definitely has our attention as we start to think where the Mary Winchester story is going. The guys are just getting to know her and their new life, so if she did something that could make the getting-to-know-you process a little bit harder, we certainly see that being complicated.
Ultimately, get ready for new episodes to continue airing Thursday nights before we get around to this point.
