‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episode 4 spoilers: CBS releases ‘Keeper’ synopsis

For the days leading up to this past episode of “Criminal Minds,” we wondered as to why CBS wasn’t releasing many details for the episode following it. From our vantage point, this was a somewhat-odd behavior pattern, and it made us wonder as to whether or not they were trying to hide something regarding the status of Thomas Gibson’s Hotch.

As it turned out, that was just our conspiracy theory and the show did not address this at all. It seems to be that the show is waiting for some specific point for more details on this, and there’s no evidence it will be coming in “Keeper” on October 26. (The show is off the air next week due to the final Presidential Debate.)

CBS has finally released the synopsis for this episode, but it doesn’t exactly reveal much: “The BAU team searches for a serial killer along the Appalachian Trail in rural Virginia.” Basically, this is the bare minimum of what they could release, and all it tells us is the basic plot of the episode.

From a character standpoint, the biggest thing that we would add to this is that we’re going to have a chance to learn a little bit more about Emily Prentiss and the state of her life now that she’s preparing to stick around long-term. We’re not sure about the timeline of when “Keeper” was written in terms of if Gibson was merely suspended or fired at this point, but the show has to start to pivot towards focusing on new players and forming a new chemistry. This may not be an easy transition, but there are some very talented people left in the cast.
