‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 spoilers: Sean Maguire appearance to be more than flashbacks
The cat is already out of the bag when it comes to Sean Maguire’s return to “Once Upon a Time,” and the result of his return was, at least for the most part, joy. Robin Hood’s a beloved character by many fans, and with him coming back of course comes many inevitable questions about how he will work within the story.
The question we know many have pondered over as of late is rather simple: How in the world is this going to happen? How do you bring someone back who was effectively wiped off the Earth by Hades during season 5? Our assumption was that this was going to be a flashbacks-only sort of appearance, but executive producer Edward Kitsis assures Entertainment Weekly that this is not exactly the case: “It’s definitely not just him in flashbacks, we can guarantee that.” Fellow EP Adam Horowitz added the following:
“It’s multiple episodes, it’s not just in flashback, but it’s not necessarily what you’d expect … How he integrates into the story, we want to keep a surprise and unexpected. It’s an important part of the main story once it happens.”
There’s no guarantee that Robin makes it still to the land of living, but our feeling is that no matter what happens, we’ll be happy as long as it makes some sense. When Robin was originally killed off, Hades made a big deal about how there was no way the character would return. We do want that to be more than just mere window dressing, and if Robin returns, it should come about as the result of a tremendous amount of work. If it is easy, it diminishes after the fact the significance of Hades as a villain.
