‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: Andrew Lincoln talks scope, a larger world

Let’s be honest for a moment: Hope is not something that we’ve felt many times within the universe of “The Walking Dead” universe. It is not like there is a moment coming where someone snaps their fingers and all of a sudden the zombies are gone. Nothing’s going to get better in terms of the danger in the world; instead, the rest of the show could be defined in part by how you react to said danger. It’s not always going to be easy, but there may be ways in which you can make it through and survive.

For Rick and company in this world, the first order of business may just be trying to figure out a way to survive the attack from Negan, which is coming in the premiere as one life will be wiped off the board. Is there a reason to be hopeful following this? It may be wrong to say that, but we do think Andrew Lincoln’s recent comments to Entertainment Weekly are rather interesting:

“This is a very, very dark season but it’s always darkest before the dawn … Hang in there, guys, because it’s alive. It feels like there’s a great shape at the moment that [showrunner Scott M. Gimple] is crossing for the show and it’s very, very exciting. It began a few years ago and it’s turned into much more expansive, courageous, and more adventurous storytelling, both time-wise and location-wise.”

So many we’re not getting an optimistic take on the zombie apocalypse anytime soon, but it does look like we’re going to have a chance to see a world that shows there is a way to make things work even with zombies on the outside. There is still a society that can be formed. As for whether or not that can be maintained, that’s what we have to figure out. It is human nature for things like greed and power to often get in the way.
