‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: First look at James Olsen as Guardian!

The second season of “Supergirl” is going to be bringing a new episode in your direction on The CW Monday night, and while we cannot confirm that a major change will be coming James Olsen’s way in that, there is a big one coming before the midway point of this season. After all, the guy is set to become the vigilante Guardian, and will do his part to fight on the streets of National City while Supergirl takes to the skies.

The photo above is your first image of Mehcad Brooks in costume, and this one certainly feels a little bit like John Diggle’s little brother with a shield thrown on there … not that this is a bad thing at all. The suit certainly seems capable of protecting James when he’s out there, at least from most of what National City throws at him. If nothing else, maybe it’s defense-oriented enough that he could serve as a worthy distraction for Kara or Hank Henshaw to come in and help out.

Obviously, the biggest problem that James is going to run into while out there is one of balance. Just remember for a minute here that Kara is almost impossible to stop other than with Kryptonite; meanwhile, he’s mortal and can be taken out or defeated rather easily. One element of this character twist that should be particularly interesting to figure out is that Kara won’t know James is doing this right away, and while Winn will be in the know as to what is happening, he may not be particularly keen on spilling the beans at first, either. Don’t you think that this could lead to a few presumably-awkward situations? We have to think so.
